Grace is a painter/fine artist living in San Francisco, California, specializing in graphite and watercolor paintings on a variety of substrates. As an artist constantly examining her past, her works centralizes around themes of nostalgia, memory, wonder, and nature. Grace’s work is about communicating her innate desire to return back to nature, to grasp at the shreds of the sublime, the feeling of experiencing nature for the first time. Her work accomplishes this by exploring the act of remembrance. To re-member something, it must also be dis-membered. Although this is a unique representation of the concept, memory is an essential component of her work. Often referring to her work as the “ghosts of the grass,” Grace pulls from her recollections of the wild coastal landscape of Northern California, the syncopated low country of Georgia, to the vibrant valleys of Provence, France: all of these places united by the impact they’ve had upon her creative journey. By ignoring opportunities for visual reference, she instead allows her visions to be distorted by memory, diluting natural forms into a collection of directional marks and semi-representation forms. She is currently based in San Francisco, California, only a short distance from where she was born. Grace achieved her BFA in Painting at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia (2023).
